Description

The University of Sfax was founded was Founded in 1986 as a step towards decentralizing higher education in Tunisia. USF has lived since its creation a change in the number of students, the number of teachers and quality education. It’s living today a new era of development and restructuring.

 More than 30,000 students are enrolled at the University of Sfax which contains 19 Higher Institutes and factulty among them, the Higher Institute of Arts and Crafts of Sfax, ISAMS.

 The ISAMS was founded in 1995.

It contains 3 departments which are the design department, the plastic arts department and the audio department.

More than 1,500 students are enrolled in this institute, which provides courses in bachelor’s degrees, professional masters, research masters and also a doctorate in Art and mediation.

Almost 200 doctoral students are registered at ISAM of Sfax which also contains a research unit in Arts, Design and crafts.

The Textile Innovation center has the following objectives:
  • Reduction of design time by 3D simulation.
  • Reduced consumption of raw materials and products to meet sustainability principles and standards.
  • More responsiveness and more competitiveness (artists, designers and manufacturers of fashion, textiles and creative professions).
  • Encouragement of student participation in innovation with real case studies and active participation in internships.
  • Development of the skills and competences that the market needs
    The services offered by the Textile Innovation Center are:
    • Information on new technological trends in the fashion sector,
    • Training in innovative manufacturing techniques that are more respectful of the environment,
    • Identification of innovative methods of organizing production,
    • Proposal of ways to reduce production costs and increase productivity,
    • Development of quality products,
    • Information on investment and financing opportunities in the creative industries,
    • Support and training for students wishing to innovate in the field of textiles/clothing
    Center's targeted skills are:

     

    1. To develop and present the project idea: concept research and visualization.

    2. To translate ideas and vision into concrete end products related to new fashion technologies.

    3. To draw inspiration from traditional and trendy techniques and patterns for the realization of fashion products in 3D virtual prototyping.

    4. To acquire knowledge of the most contemporary new technologies in fashion and develop ideas on sustainability, from design to the final product.

    The new opportunities the centre offers

    This center contains the following Equipment:
    • 3D Simulation and Digitization Solution composed of:
      1.  3D cabin for the digitization of human silhouettes
      2. Fabric scanner for Fabric digitization
      3. 3D simulation software / Digitization of Accessories, Patterns & Clothing
    • Sublimation printing solution, containing a transfer printer with the corresponding program and an automatic press
    • Laser Cutting and Engraving Machine
    • Digital embroidery machine, with design software
    • Automatic flat knitting machine With knitting design and knitting programme software
    • Multifunctional machine containing a 3D Printing head, a Laser Cutting head, and a CNC Engraving head for fashion design accessories and sundries
